Gasem has 21 years of professional experience with SABIC, 15 years in plant operations and 6 years in corporate. He started as Project Engineer (1989) and then occupied different position. The last of these was Fertilizers Business Strategy, Economics and Business Support GM (2009).
Gasem also held executive positions in the polymers industry; he was Chairman of Board of Directors of SABIC Polymers in Adana, Turkey, a member of Board of Directors of Yanpet (Yanbu) and Kemya (Jubail), one of SABIC/ ExxonMobil Joint Ventures and was Member of Board of Directors of Laleh Petrochemical Company in Iran.
In 2010, Gasem was appointed as the president of Al Watania Plastics Company which is one of the top plastics converters in the Kingdom.
Gasem holds a Bachelor's Degree, with honour, in Mechanical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and is Certified International ISO Quality System External Auditor (BSI) and has Six Sigma Black Belt from American Society of Quality (ASQ).
